i'll start by saying that i had some problems with this book - some of the writing seemed as if she was straining, the main character as an adult was quite annoying, and i found it hard to believe the abject lack of communication (i've seen what i thought is pretty terrible communication in my life, but this seemed a stretch - for which i have to fault her writing). so, that said, i'll end by saying that i read this book with my body clenched in tension throughout most of it, and kept wanting to keep reading, for which i have to credit her writing.
